GENERAL OVERVIEW

Responsible for all clerical duties in the clinical area of the Emergency Department.  Order all diagnostic tests

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Places and receives phone calls and directs calls to appropriate individuals and departments.
  • Responsible for  on-call list, maintaining  paper supplies, assemble charts, collects Performance Improvement data, keeps files and bulletin board in order, ensure all ED charts are collated (burst) to the appropriate areas. (Medical Records and Emergency Physician of Pittsburgh).
  • Participates in patient movement and status through Vital Works (Patient Tracking) and  Transporting Tracking
  • Alerts staff via the nurse call system to respond to patient needs including physicians, nurses. medics,  and technicians.  Alerts transport via the nurse call system to transport patients to and from testing areas.  Enters all charges into envision.  Enters general transport needs via computer to Transport Department.
  • Provides excellent guest relations to all customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • High school diploma or the equivalent required.  Unit clerk training OR 1 year unit clerk experience OR graduate of a medical assistant program with 1 year medical office experience required.
  • Unit clerk training OR 1 year unit clerk experience OR graduate of a medical assistant program with 1 year medical office experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of Heartsaver CPR - Course #1 which includes Adult CPR and Foreign, Body Airway instruction (FBOA). Further requirements are department and unit specific
