JOB SUMMARY (Summarizes the major purpose and primary responsibilities)

The Organization Performance (OP) Lead will bring consulting, analytic and organization process design/development expertise to the enterprise. The Lead will act in a leadership role, building the internal OP function’s capabilities and determining how best to deploy those capabilities throughout the organization to support business performance improvement. The Lead will apply business knowledge/acumen, analytic, benchmark and an understanding of core OP capabilities as his/her team helps business leaders set clear transformation objectives (from supporting new growth opportunities to driving in-depth restructuring efforts) that enhance the way the company operates and serves its customers and the community.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Describes the critical tasks, duties and responsibilities of the position.)

  • Enhances business function objectives and supports the goal of improving business performance through increased collaboration and understanding of services provided/available to Highmark leadership.  Formulates and communicates the strategies, services and high-level approaches that can be used to support the business transformation.
  • Helps business unit leaders develop strategies and plans to achieve the vision, and manage the change as the vision is implemented.  Works closely with executive leadership team(s) to support alignment and execution of prioritized strategies.  Partners with the business leaders to determine measurements for success to assess the effectiveness of transformation efforts.
  • Assists the leadership in achieving goals that align to the overall strategies of the enterprise and are driven by the OP function’s goals.  Provides thought leadership and identifies organization development best practices to help shape/promote the internal brand and increase the function’s credibility. Partners with business leaders and human resources to determine alignment of OP services with business needs.
  • Leads the core OP function. Identifies and manages all core OP function team members, educates and empowers the team, and determines the team structural needs over time. Provides oversight/guidance to OP team members responsible for leading projects and teams, scanning the market, developing business cases, applying analytics metrics that help define structure and/or measure progress against KPIs/benchmarks, and ultimately designing/standing up organizations.

  • Manages organizational nuances to keep the OP team and business unit leadership properly focused on needed activities and goals.
  • Performs management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management, staff productivity and reinforcement of Highmark Health's core behaviors.
  • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
  • Promotes the enterprise wide “Highmark Way” for bringing organization design/performance services to business units undergoing organizational change.
  • Ensures that OP resources are most effectively applied by periodically reviewing project intake and resource allocation processes.
  • Develops an internal network of partners and advocates responsible for driving utilization of the function across the organization
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree- Business, Strategy or related field

Substitutions (Acceptable substitutions in lieu of a degree 1 ½ years’ experience  = 1 year college)

PREFERRED EDUCATION

MBA, Management, HR or related

EXPERIENCE

Minimum: This section refers to the minimum years and type of applicable experience needed to perform the job.  Minimum requirements must be non-comparative, objective, and relevant.

  • 10+ years of experience providing strategic guidance to leaders and shaping organizations to help achieve goals associated with the restructuring of operations, M&A activities and greenfield operations
  • 10+ years of experience managing project teams
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience working in large, complex organizations
  • Industry experience in health insurance or healthcare related fields highly preferred

  • Industry experience in health insurance or healthcare related fields highly preferred
  • Demonstrated political savvy and  success in building relationships across multiple organizations to help improve visibility of a service or function

  • Deep demonstration of core process design competencies
  • Experience working in or consulting to Fortune 500 company
