GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Director of AHN Patient Education is a strategic, visionary leader responsible for the development and execution of effective patient, and family education materials and delivery across the network. As a member of the AHN Executive Nursing leadership team, this individual will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to leverage research and implement evidence-based educational strategies that strengthen clinical practice and improve patient self-efficacy for optimized patient outcomes. At the direction of the CNE, the Director is also accountable for ensuring the standardization and accuracy of educational information and materials used within the network. The ideal candidate will elevate the importance of an integrated approach to patient education that considers diverse learning styles, literacy, and culture; and will lead continuous improvement with decision-makers across the continuum of care.                     

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops an enterprise-wide strategic plan for patient education in collaboration with the Executive Nursing leadership team that promotes evidence-based practices and meets network, regional, facility, and regulatory standards (25%)
  • Oversees the development and implementation of standardized education curricula and methodologies to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Manages and administers database information to provide effective oversight of system educational resources (25%)
  • Leads analyses that enable continuous improvement and innovation in patient education practices focused on improved patient outcomes and performance within budgetary targets (15%)
  • Creates strong, collaborative partnerships across the organization to ensure an integrated and standardized approach to patient education is achieved (15%)
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by maintaining current knowledge of best practices in the field and promoting transformational leadership that supports continued learning at all levels. Serves as a resource for policy and procedures, standards of care, and external agency requirements (15%)
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related field
  • 7-10 years experience in progressive leadership roles at an institution, physician organization and/or system level
  • 5-7 years experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive, multidisciplinary education programs in a healthcare setting
  • RN license, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Preferred

  • Doctorate degree in Education or related field
