The Manager Security develops and implements corporate, regional, and departmental security policy; manages a staff dedicated to building security and employee protection services; identifies security and safety vulnerabilities; recommends and implements effective corrective measures to assure a safe and secure work environment.  In addition, the Manager is responsible for responding personally or causing a response to alarms and other building emergencies, in most cases as the primary contact.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.

Communicate effectively.  This position displays effective communication skills while performing the following functions:

  • Interacting with Corporate Security & Employee Safety staff members and contracted security personnel.
  • Responding to security and safety concerns of Highmark management and employees.
  • Conducting investigations and interviews of victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects.
  • Performing law enforcement and public safety liaison activities on behalf of Highmark.
  • Conducting training programs for Corporate Security & Employee Safety personnel and for Highmark management and employees on a variety of security- and safety-related topics.
  • Interacting with Highmark customers, providers, producers, board members, and other key stakeholders as circumstances require.

Manage, administer and direct all aspects of security and safety programs at assigned locations.

  • Direct security and safety activities that are performed by a combination of employed and contracted security staff
  • Develops and approves operational policies and procedures, ensures staff training is completed, and guides the security staff’s implementation of all security and safety policies.
    • Coordinates the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures with Corporate Security & Employee Safety personnel in all Highmark regions to ensure consistent application of security and safety strategies and objectives.

Investigate and resolve highly confidential incidents or security and safety issues referred to the Corporate Security& Employee Safety department by employees and management, or by other Highmark departments, or upon request by executive management.

  • Refers investigations involving criminal acts to appropriate law enforcement agencies and coordinating investigations with those agencies.

Originate or improve corporate and regional security and safety policies by identifying security and safety vulnerabilities and developing, recommending, approving, and implementing effective corrective measures to ensure a safe and secure work environment for Highmark employees and assets.

  • Responsible for adapting corporate security policies and procedures to new or changing business needs or in response to legislative initiatives.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Licenses/Certifications, and Experience (For Experience requirements please see appropriate role/level guide.  If not applicable, list experience requirements below.)

Minimum

Describe in objective and non-comparative terms the minimum education level, previous experience, specific knowledge skills and abilities the individual must have to perform the job.

Preferred

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role in a security, safety, loss prevention, or risk management function in a corporate environment OR at least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a law enforcement agency.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with security, life safety and law enforcement techniques for a corporate culture.
  • Experience in investigative methods.
  • The incumbent is required to have, or obtain within 180 days of appointment, certification under Pennsylvania Act 235, also known as the Lethal Weapons Training Act.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Criminology, or related fields of study is preferred for this position.
  • Board certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) by ASIS International is preferred.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • This position requires that the incumbent have the ability to respond to various emergencies at Highmark business locations throughout the central region or as assigned.
  • The incumbent must be able to travel on day trips on short notice to respond to security or safety incidents.
  • The incumbent must be able to work during non-business hours for special events, executive protection details, or other unusual situations as circumstances dictate.
